My approach is simple, I paint what people want to remember. That might turn out to be a grandchild’s priceless pout or the beloved dog on its last legs. I do more portrait work than anything else but I have also been asked to paint the country house with garden in full bloom and the favorite Paris street corner of a visiting American. Clients tell me their paintings become more precious to them as the realities they represent recede – the country house has a new owner, the revered president of the company has retired and the darling baby has turned into a troublesome adolescent. I am a souvenir painter in the French sense of the word - a painter for posterity.
I usually work from photographs, though when a client wants to sit for their portrait I welcome the opportunity. Paris is my home but I travel a great deal within France and the U.S. - New York, Washington, D.C., Tampa, Los Angeles and San Francisco. Ideally I work from my own photographs but when a meeting cannot be arranged, as for a surprise or a posthumous portrait, existing photos are usually adequate.
Paintings are in oil and range in price from $1,000 to $7,500 depending on the subject, format and complexity. Clients receive a firm quote once the project has been fully defined. I ask for half at the start and the balance on delivery.
Please don’t hesitate to contact me to discuss any ideas you may have for a painting. Thanks again for your visit.
